Within the main facility that spans 30 well-appointed suites, two distinctive spaces keep them on the world stage; a 4K DCI picture-post theatre featuring a Christie RGB laser projector, and Auckland’s only Dolby Premier Theatrical Atmos far-field mix stage. Together with their talented and credited artists, they deliver post-production services at the highest international standards.
A standout capability is their long term ability to provide experienced on-set crew and services that deliver more effective metadata to post and VFX, while supporting the Director of Photography’s colour journey from shoot to final grade. On the Lionsgate series Spartacus: House of Ashur, Department of Post delivered the complete package: on-set Qtake, DIT, dailies, editorial and VFX facilities, VFX pulls, HDR Dolby Vision picture post, Dolby Atmos sound post, and thorough deliverables and QC. Providing everything within one facility enabled the Director and heads of department to easily oversee every department daily, delivering the series on schedule, on budget, and finished to a higher standard than anyone had imagined.
The exciting part of post-production is that technology is always changing and Department of Post prides itself on being at the forefront of those changes. Their team continues to develop their own toolsets such as Nucleus, a tool that gathers, sorts and corrects metadata from all on-set departments, putting accurate metadata at the fingertips of the editorial team and VFX vendors.
