Founded in the early 1990s to provide mechanical and physical special effects for film and television, FilmFX quickly became a trusted partner on landmark productions. Managing Director and SPFX Supervisor Brendon Durey brings more than 25 years of experience to every project. Alongside the FilmFX team, he is known for expert risk management, rigorous safety, and practical effects that integrate seamlessly with CGI while meeting tight production schedules.

Based in a dedicated Henderson workshop, FilmFX is Auckland’s largest SPFX company, with extensive equipment, specialist products, and a skilled contractor network capable of managing multiple productions while maintaining exceptional standards of quality and safety.
Its services span atmospherics and weather effects, including New Zealand distribution for Snow Business International, along with pyrotechnics and flame effects, delivered by Auckland’s most experienced screen industry pyro team. The company also provides hydraulic, pneumatic, and kinetic effects, including mechanical rigs, moving set pieces, and a motion control gimbal.
